Independent candidate Shankar Singh emerged victorious in the Rupauli assembly by-poll in Purnea district, Bihar, defeating JD(U) candidate Kaladhar Mandal by a margin of 8,204 votes. Singh secured 67,782 votes while Mandal received 58,578 votes, marking the second instance of an Independent candidate defeating a JD(U) nominee in the district.
The by-poll results also saw RJD candidate Bima Bharti securing third place with 30,114 votes, while NOTA received 5,675 votes. Only four out of eleven candidates managed to cross the thousand-vote mark in the final tally. The election was necessitated by the resignation of former JD(U) MLA Bima Bharti, who contested and lost in the recent Lok Sabha elections on an RJD ticket.
